Have you always lived in California?
I was born and raised here. I went to grad school in Chicago, then moved to New York City. I lived there for three years before coming back to Los Angeles. I still miss it almost every day.

What was your biggest fear as a child? Have you overcome it? by chickloveslotr
Honestly? Bigfoot. I know, right? I suffered through years of nighttime terrors involving a nine-foot ape-man hiking out of the deep forests of Oregon, down Interstate 5 through Fresno, and into my bedroom in the Southern California suburbs. I would also go to the library and read all these books about Loch Ness, the chupacabra, basically the entire "X-Files" weird monster pantheon. It was a phase, I have no idea. But I'm no longer scared of Bigfoot, so: victory!
Although, remember that "X-Files" episode "Home" with the deformed mother under the bed and her deformed sons who drove around in their classic car and beat the sheriff to death with baseball bats? Ugh, I just creeped myself out.

You on formspring is better than reading reviews for V - The Original Series (1984) on Amazon. Cool. What was you major on College? Just curious as to what it takes to have my dream job, a.k.a. your job.
Uh, thanks? I feel you've set the bar kind of low, there.
I have a B.A. in Theater with an Acting emphasis, and an M.F.A. in Writing. That is not, however, what it takes to have my job. What it takes to have my job is a huge amount of luck. And the willingness to perform a few well-placed sexual favors. (HAHA JUST KIDDING, POWERFUL TV SHOWRUNNERS! UNLESS OF COURSE YOU WOULD LIKE SAID FAVORS! THEN TOTALLY NOT KIDDING! CALL ME!)

What is the best piece of advice you've ever been given about life and about writing?
It's not advice I was actually GIVEN, and I have to admit I fail at following it way more than I succeed, but beside my desk at work I keep a quote by the composer Morton Feldman: "Just concentrate on not making the lazy move."

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would that be?
Warm bread. Almost any kind of bread, with extra points if it's super doughy and/or fried (I'm talking to you, donuts. Or beignets or zeppoles or sopapillas or poori. Whatever you call yourselves, you complete me.) Or my favorite thing as a kid: King's Hawaiian. The round loaf obviously, not the rolls which are crap. And butter. I'm having such a Proustian moment right now.

It seems you know Latin. Did you take it in college? Know any other languages?
I don't know much Latin, and what I know is self-taught. I love etymology; it imbues everyday language with all kinds of history and poetry. It's so much cooler knowing that "inspire" means "breathe into" and "conspire" means "breathe together." (I know: NERD.)
Other than that, estudie espanol in la escuela pero he olvidado mucho.
And I can count to twenty and recite several lines from "Pretty Woman" in Norwegian.
Oh, and I speak elementary Korean.

What's the deal with PJ?
I'm not sure what this means, so I'm going to interpret it as, "Why is PJ so awesome," because that's what I would want to know.
Answer: I don't know why PJ is awesome. He just came that way. This should really be one of the Four Questions, like "Why do we eat matzoh" and so on (Note: clever Passover reference. Chag Sameach, everybody!)

What are you doing in your display picture? Are you brushing your teeth?
Yes. I was texting one night with Peter Jacobson, who seems to believe that I spend a lot of time hanging out the moon roof of a Hummer limo on Sunset Strip with a sidecar and a Cuban cigar and, like, Mischa Barton (or something). I took that photo to prove I was actually at home getting ready for bed.
