Pilot Scoop: House's Peter Jacobson Checks Into Showtime's Ray Donovan
Michael Ausiello Peter Jacobson has landed his first post-House gig, signing on to co-star in Showtime’s drama pilot Ray Donovan. Set in contemporary Los Angeles, the potential series stars Liev Schreiber as a professional trouble-shooter who is regularly called on to solve the complicated, confidential and controversial problems of L.A.’s elite. According to our sister site Deadline.com, Jacobson — who becomes the first House regular to sign on to a pilot since news broke that the show would end in May — will play Lee Drexler, a hard-driving, foul-mouthed wheeler-dealer who relies on Ray as Mr. Fixit whenever his high-profile clients get into hot water. Other announced cast members for the pilot include Jon Voight as Ray’s father Mickey Donovan, Paula Malcomson as Ray’s wife Abby, Elliott Gould in the recurring role of Ray’s mentor and confidante, and Kate Moennig as Ray’s second in command.

PETER JACOBSON LOVES TO PLAY ‘HOUSE’ WITH HUGH LAURIE In the fourth season of “House,” Dr. Christopher Taub was one of the three new doctors that made it through the “Survivor”-like weeding-out process, and he’s been a mainstay on the show ever since. Dr. Taub has also become the most identifiable role Peter Jacobson’s taken on in his nearly two decades as a working actor. And he’s fine with that — he says the scenes he’s done with Hugh Laurie have been a definite career highlight for him, and he knows his fans love those scenes as well. NBC’s Law & Order: SVU is throwing quite a party for its season finale airing May 23, and the guest list is chock-a-block with familiar faces.
In “Rhodium Nights,” where someone who appears to be a high-end call girl turns up dead at an A-list soiree, House vet Peter Jacobson will guest-star as Bart Ganzel, the owner of the escort service that supplied “entertainment” for the party, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Welcome to Questions of Characters, the column that puts a name to some of the most familiar faces in movies, on television, the stage and commercials who either hail from Chicago or have spent enough time here to consider it home.
Name: Peter Jacobson
Chicago connection: Born in Chicago, he is the son of renowned local newscaster Walter Jacobson and first wife, Lynn. Jacobson grew up in Hyde Park and Lincoln Park and attended Francis W. Parker School.
Career overview: He studied political science at Brown University, graduating in 1987 before switching to acting and graduating from Julliard in 1991. He worked on the stage in New York many years before going into television and film. "I feel like there was no one project that I can point to as a 'big break.' I think I'm sorta the character guy with parts that keep expanding as I go along. If I had to say something, probably my first job out of graduate school doing Shakespeare in the Park helped." Jacobson and his future co-star on House, Lisa Edelstein, appeared in "As Good As It Gets" in 1997 as a couple verbally subjected to an anti-Semitic rant by Jack Nicholson.
He played a recurring role on "Law & Order" before joining the cast of "House"as the one-time plastic surgeon Dr. Chris Taub in 2007. In between a number of television appearances on "Scrubs," "CSI: Miami"and "The Starter Wife," Jacobson has also appeared in several films — "Good Night, and Good Luck," "Failure to Launch," "The Midnight Meat Train," "Transformers," and as the voice of Acer in "Cars 2." On May 21 he will appear in the finale of House, which is concluding its run after eight seasons. But Jacobson may return to series television in Showtime's proposed new series "Ray Donovan" (if it gets picked up). It stars Liev Schrieber, and Jacobson plays his foul-mouthed associate. He lives in New York City with his wife, Whitney, and 9-year-old son Manny.
Q: Can you offer any hints about what fans of "House" can look forward to as the series draws to a conclusion?
A: Other than the massive shootout that Taub has with the Capone gang that he wins I am utterly incapable of saying anything or I will end up in a massive shootout (laughs)! But I assure you, it's going to be great.
Q: Is there any chance that "House" will follow the trend of other series and be turned into a feature film?
A: I haven't heard of anything yet but I'm game!
Q: Is there a phrase or scene from the show that fans quote when they recognize you as Dr. Chris Taub?
A: Often they'll just say, "Is it lupus?" or, "Why did you kill Kutner?" Which is a very bizarre thing that I don't understand. I say, "Talk to the writers - I did not do it."
Q: Who are you most often mistaken for (actor or other famous personality)?
A: I often get compliments on starring in "The Office."People often think I'm Steve Carell. During a photo shoot for "House" once the photographer referred to me through the entire shoot as Steve, which really cracked up Omar Epps. It used to be Klinger from"MASH" but now it's often Steve Carell.
Q: Which actor(s) would you nominate for the Character Actor Hall of Fame? Why?
A: No. 1 of all time is Robert Duvall. The greatest film actor in cinema. The most effortlessly brilliant actor I've ever seen. I worked with him for six weeks on "A Civil Action" as another lawyer in his firm and I just loved watching him work. It's shocking how little you see him do and how much appears on screen. I don't think there's anybody with a more easy soul.
Q: What's an archetypical character role you have played often?
A: Lawyer, doctor, rabbi, agent, banker — anything Jewish I can play.
Q: Who have you enjoyed "supporting" the most (either in film, on TV, onstage)?
A: Supporting Hugh (Laurie) — if anyone can really support him — he's so brilliant. Duvall I'll say again. I got to work next to John Mahoney in a commercial and we were supporting each other but I bow down to him. Again, talk about effortless brilliance. He is so easy; such a sweet man, so nice to be around and he's another one who makes it look so easy. Dennis Farina was scary - he's so tough (laughs). The scene got a little heated. The only time I was ever a teeny bit scared - I mean he's really intense, man.
Q: Most unusual character/costume/location/prop?
A: I was a Beefeater on the side of a Scotch bottle. The mayor of Providence, R.I., was looking for two guys to dress up in costume as he was driven in a horse-drawn carriage. This was while I was at Brown. Hey, they gave me $20.
Q: How has "the Chicago connection" helped in your career?
A: It hasn't in terms of getting work in Chicago, which I am willing to do. I think just making me a Chicagoan at heart helps. I think there's a certain unique spirit and energy; a certain feistiness that's hard to avoid growing up in that town that's a part of my character which I got from growing up in Chicago.
Q: What advice did your dad give you when you told him you wanted to be an actor?
A: My dad has always been nothing but supportive. "As long as it's keeping you happy, keep doing it."
Q: Living in New York, what do you miss most about Chicago?
A: Deep-dish pizza; I have a constant battle with New Yorkers here over this. They're never going to win; there's no contest. I miss the calmer life of Chicago and the traffic moving about 20 miles per slower. I still have family and extended family here and get back once, maybe twice a year. When "House" is over I have plans to be back in Chicago. I've never worked there but now, who knows?
Он там есть и первая серия очень даже неплохая. Посмотрим, что будет дальше. Смиренно склони голову перед фактами, но гордо подними её пред лицом чужих мнений. (с)
