Ред действительно такое говорил, но у меня не сложилось впечатление " trained and rewarded for becoming killing machines". Все-таки, насколько я поняла, он был именно кабинетным ученым, несмотря на смертоносные изобретения, а "в народ" только и пошел из-за обстоятельств - сначала начал продавать изобретения ради финансирования исследований, в котором ему отказало федеральное правительство, потом убивать - ради поиска вакцины. Как-то так...

"Our Town is a great play, but it's rarely done right. I feel we're doing it right." "I think they've been in love their whole lives, they just didn't know it for a while," he continues. Born in New Jersey, USA, 22 years ago, Robert Sean Leonard had quite an unusual upbringing. You see, because he's been acting since he was 15, he didn't have to go to school that much! It was wonderful but crazy. They put seven of us on the same floor of this hotel and we'd play soccer in the hallways and blast Beethoven from our stereos and stuff like that. "It's hard when you first see the film, because, as you shoot out of sequence, you're always thinking 'Oh, I remember that day, that was when I dropped Lasagne on my lap...'. Almost every other one so far has blamed their actions on being a necessary evil, a sort of unfortunate means to an end. With Barnes, for the first time this actually feels accurate. It's funny that he mentioned his Animal House-esque time shooting Dead Poets Society because it reminds me of what Kurtwood Smith said about it: [This is from Movieweb]

Kurtwood Smith: Yeah, we were at this hotel, and it wasn't anything special, but it was a nice place. I remember that the boys were all on the same floor. The adults just didn't go up there, because who knows what was going on. You just pretty much stayed away from that, but there were a lot of hijinks going on upstairs. Уж не знаю, откуда информация (для меня так точно что-то новенькое), но вот тут пишут, что РШЛ в 2000 г был одним из кандидатов на роль Патрика Бейтмана в "Американском психопате" - роль получил Кристиан Бейл When Lions Gate picked up the rights for the film, Mary Harron was set to write and direct. Initially, she considered various actors for the role of Patrick Bateman, including Billy Crudup (who was offered the part but turned it down), Ben Chaplin, Robert Sean Leonard, Johnathon Schaech, Jonny Lee Miller, and Jared Leto. Eventually, Harron offered the part to Christian Bale, who accepted. The producers tried to talk Harron into casting Edward Norton, but she refused, and was ultimately allowed to cast Bale, but only on the proviso that she cast at least two other big name actors in supporting roles. To this end, Harron hired Willem Dafoe to play Kimball and Reese Witherspoon to play Evelyn. However, after they had agreed to appear, Lions Gate told Harron they were going to make an offer to Leonardo DiCaprio to play Bateman. Harron told them if they did, she would leave the project, which is exactly what happened. Oliver Stone was subsequently hired to replace Harron, working from a script by Matt Markwalder. Вот именно из-за того, какая это роль и какой это персонаж, я очень даже могу в это поверить (в эту информацию) - это именно то, про что он говорил и чего он хотел, да и это, кстати, очень, имхо, его типаж, так что очень похоже на правду.

Но я как подумаю о фантастически прекрасном РШЛ образца 2000 года, холеном и шикарном, в дорогущих элегантных костюмах... и при этом - убийце-психопате... *захлебнулась слюнями* Правда мы тогда уж точно не увидели бы его в "Хаусе". И была бы совсем другая история...

Дело в том, что в его карьере и на тот момент, да и сейчас, нет действительно "темных", "плохих" ролей. А его миловидное и доброе личико не вызывало у кастинг директоров уверенности, что он подходит на роль "плохого" парня. Тут нужен либо режиссер, который знает на 100%, что актер справиться с ролью или просто поверит в актера и уговорит продюсеров. Либо волосатую руку продюсера. И у Бейла, в отличии от РШЛа, есть у лице что то нордическое, холодное. Вспомни тот же Swing Kids или Эквилибриум.

А я вот до сих пор не могу понять, почему он отказался. Если принять за правду то, что он везде говорил, что снимался в фильмах и сериалах, только ради того, что бы подзаработать, то Титаник был бы для него шикарным шансом подзаработать. Ну и плевать, что роль плоская, он и похуже играл. Но если ты на мели, а тут такая возможность поработать с известным режиссером и получить приличную сумму, то можно же было поднапрячся и поработать, почему отказался. Дело темное.
