EmailPrintShare November 19, 2010 Emmy Award Winning Director Greg Yaitanes One of the most recognizable names in Hollywood is lending his talent to produce the opening sequence for the 2011 Gabby Awards. Emmy Award winning director Greg Yaitanes will incorporate still images, video, live vocals and actors to open the event that is taking place in the Hall of Registry on Ellis Island, the exact room that millions of immigrants passed through as they arrived in the New World. Yaitanes, 40, is one of the most recognized names in Hollywood, directing and producing top shows including Damages, Lost, Prison Break, Heroes and Grey’s Anatomy. His Emmy Award—television’s top honor-- came in 2008 as result of his work on House, M.D., the most popular show worldwide.
The opening sequence will include dozens of still photographs of real Greek immigrants who passed through Ellis Island—ancestors of many people who will be in attendance that evening. Yaitanes grew up in Wellesley, Massachusetts and was raised in an Orthodox Christian household. At the age of 18, Yaitanes moved to Los Angeles and attended the University of Southern California Film School. By 23, he landed his first directorial job. Yaitanes was so persistent that he once waited seven hours for a 10-minute meeting with action film producer Joel Silver. After screening Yaitanes’ work, Silver signed him for his second feature. Since then, Yaitanes’ artistic talent and dedication have led him to a successful career in the director’s chair in television. Though he is well known in Hollywood for his work on several top-watched shows, his technological entrepreneurship has also made him a respected name in Silicon Valley. His investments in start-up companies such as Twitter have earned him a reputation for foresight in technology. Yaitanes is one of Twitter’s original investors and a frequent guest speaker at the company. A third-generation Greek-American, Yaitanes has stayed connected to his Greek heritage by passing on the Greek culture and language to his two most important accomplishments: his sons, Evangelos and Leonidas. He is an active member and supporter of St. Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles and has lent his artistic talent in directing and producing film to solicit donations for the cathedral. In June, Greg was honored to be named one of Greek America Foundation's Forty under 40. In an interview with Greek magazine Down Town, Yaitanes expressed his hope to share Greek traditions and legacy so that his sons may do the same.

Successful television professionals spanning four decades have been College Television Award winners.
Greg Yaitanes, Primetime Emmy winning director of House "It was a thrill to present at the College Television Awards and witness the talent of the next generation of television professionals. I spent the afternoon with Julian Higgins, winner of the Best Directing award and offered him the opportunity to shadow me during the opening episode of season 8 of House. Julian will get to see the script evolve, take part in the prep, watch through production and go through post all the way to to final mix. He will see firsthand what goes into making television. These are the kind of hands-on experiences student producers should get more of, and I'm thrilled to provide that to Julian."

Ramon: Faith is not a disease. House: No, of course not. On the other hand, it is communicable, and it kills a lot of people.
